How Does Nonsurgical Plasma Technology Work to Tighten Skin?

How Does Nonsurgical Plasma Technology Work to Tighten Skin?

Having firm, resilient skin when you’re young is pretty much a given. Likewise, as you get older, wrinkles and sagging skin are almost inevitable, leaving you looking a lot older than you feel.

Skin-tightening treatments can help, but many use invasive techniques that involve prolonged recovery and other potential downsides. The good news is that Plexr® gives you firmer, smoother skin without the risks or hassles of surgery.

Rodrigo Belalcazar, MD, PLLC, is an experienced Plexr provider who helps women and men at Advanced Eye Center in Hialeah, Florida, enjoy smoother, more youthful complexions. Here, learn how Plexr works and what happens during a treatment session.

How Plexr works

Plexr works by vaporizing superficial layers of lax, excess skin while ramping up collagen production, an important protein that supports skin and keeps it firm and smooth. When you’re young, your body produces plenty of collagen fibers on its own. Those fibers link together to form a resilient support network for your skin.

But as you get older, your body produces less collagen. Those networks weaken and break down, leaving your skin unsupported and more prone to sagging and wrinkling. Years of sun damage weakens collagen fibers, too, increasing lines and wrinkles.

Plexr helps restore sagging skin through its use of plasma energy. Sometimes referred to as the fourth state of matter, plasma forms when a gas combines with an energy source. The tiny particles that make up the gas become electrically charged, either positively or negatively.

During your treatment, we use the Plexr device to create tiny, isolated injuries in sagging, wrinkled skin. These tiny injuries trigger potent healing responses in your skin tissue and cells, including the production of healthy collagen, an essential protein that helps support your skin and keep it firm and smooth.

Noninvasive skin tightening

Vaporizing your skin may sound painful, but one of the best things about Plexr is that it’s designed to keep you completely comfortable. Before your treatment, Dr. Belalcazar applies a topical cream to numb your skin, making Plexr a painless experience.

Once your skin is numb, Dr. Belalcazar uses the Plexr device to create very precise areas of injury in your skin, leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. Depending on the area being treated, your session may take 20-60 minutes.

Afterward, there’s no downtime, but you can expect some mild redness and swelling for a few days as your skin heals. You may also have some crusting or scabs while the area heals. It's important not to rub or disturb the scabs in any way since they play an important role in healing.

You can expect to see results from your treatment within a few weeks as new collagen networks form and your skin appears firmer and more toned. Results can last as long as three years, and Plexr can be repeated to maintain results indefinitely.
